It is considered on par with Varanasi in terms of their religious significance especially because of the connection with the Pandavas of the Mahabharata. The legend has it that Shiva came here with the proposal of marriage to Parvati before their divine marriage at the site of Son Ganga and the River Mandakini at Triyuginarayan village. Another story narrates that when Aurangzeb destroyed the Kashi Vishwanath Temple and built the Gyanvapi Mosque in 1669 the Shiva Linga was shifted to Guptkashi. On reaching Guptkashi, check into a hotel and spend the evening enjoying a delicious dinner. After that, proceed to your lodging for the night.

As per history, after the Kurukshetra war, it is believed that the Pandavas went to seek the blessing of Lord Shiva in Banaras. However, to find solitude, Lord Shiva decided to reside in the form of this buffalo in Guptkashi. One day, Bhima, one of the Pandavas, came across him and attempted to restrain him, after which Lord Shiva left his hump at the Kedarnath Temple, which is currently worshiped by people.

Kedarnath Weather: Kedarnath has a freezing climate throughout the year, located at an altitude of over 3500 meters; even in summer, the temperature does not go above 20 degrees Celsius. During winter, the temperatures drop below freezing hence making it very cold during the season.
