Chardham Yatra in Uttarakhand, also known as “Chota Char Dham of India”, is among the most sacred journeys. As the name suggests, this holy circuit comprises four holy abodes- Kedarnath, Badrinath, Yamunotri, and Gangotri, dedicated to different deities. Read More
It is believed that these temples were set up by Adi Shankaracharya in the 8th century. It is said among Hindus that this spiritual journey should always start from the West and then concluded in East. Elevated at huge elevations in the Garhwal region of Uttarakhand, these holy abodes are must explored places in Hinduism.
This divine Yatra is open for pilgrims on the auspicious occasion of Akshaya Tritiya and closes on Bhai Dooj in November. But the tourists visit this holy place especially in May, June, October, and November when the climate is most favorable. The regions receive very rainfall and are very prone to landslides in the last week of July and August during the monsoon season. Also, the statues of these temples are moved to some other place where the idols can be worshipped by the believers. For instance, the idol of Yamunotri is shifted to Kharsali, and the idol of Goddess Ganga is brought to Mukhba village. In the same way, the idol of Lord Kedar is transferred to Ukhimath, and the idol of Lord Badrinath is taken to Pandukeshwar.
