Let's take a look at the recommended places where one can stay at each destination:
Here's a quick route map guide to the pilgrimage sites:
Yamunotri: Bangalore 🡪 Delhi 🡪 Haridwar 🡪 Barkot 🡪 Yamunotri
Gangotri: Yamunotri 🡪 Barkot 🡪 Uttarkashi 🡪 Gangotri
Kedarnath: Gangotri 🡪 Uttarkashi 🡪 Guptkashi 🡪 Kedarnath
Badrinath: Kedarnath 🡪 Guptkashi 🡪 Joshimath 🡪 Badrinath
There are several ways you can reach the Dhams. Here's the travel guide:
By Air: Take a flight from Kempegowda International Airport in Bangalore to Jolly Grant Airport in Dehradun, the nearest one to the Char Dhams. From there on, you can take a taxi to reach the sacred sites.
By Train: Take a train from Bangalore to Delhi first and then from Delhi to Dehradun/Haridwar, as there are no direct trains between Bangalore and Dehradun.
By Road: You can take a bus from the southern city to Delhi/Haridwar. The road travel takes about 50 hours.
This Char Dham Yatra is open for pilgrims on the auspicious occasion of Akshaya Tritiya and closes on Bhai Dooj in November. However, the best time to visit these places is in May, June, September, and October when the climate is the most favourable.
In the monsoon months (July-August), the regions receive very heavy rainfall and are very prone to landslides and other risks. Therefore, this period is unsuitable for the pilgrimage.
And in winter, the idols of these temples are moved to their winter seats for worship. For instance, the idol of Yamunotri is shifted to Kharsali, and the idol of Goddess Ganga is brought to Mukhba village. In the same way, the idol of Lord Kedar is transferred to Ukhimath, and the idol of Lord Badrinath is taken to Joshimath.
